David Duany, M.A. RMHCI #19900 State of Florida
Hello Everyone!
My name is David Duany, and I am a clinical mental health counselor specializing in therapy for families, parents, and individuals ranging in age from 8 to 40 years old. My therapy style incorporates Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as Solution Focused Therapy to address client mental health concerns and to create successful therapeutic goals. As clients and I work together, we also work on issues negatively effecting one or more life dimension areas or settings (for example: a high school age client living with anxiety who is having academic and behavioral issues, in addition to career counseling needs for what to do after high school graduation). Family therapy using a systems-based clinical approach can be successful for understanding each client’s mental health needs and how their family members can assist in the client’s overall improvement in mental heath goals and outcomes in areas such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, stress, and behavioral issues.
Education
Orlando, Florida is my hometown, and growing up here has given me a unique perspective on the community and cultural issues which clients and their families may experience. I had the opportunity to earn my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rollins College in May 2020. Before Rollins, I completed a second Bachelors degree from FSU in Family and Child Sciences in 2017, and my first Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from FSU in 2007.
Focus on Adolescents, Teens, College Age, and Young Adults
Bringing clients and their families into the present moment while in session, helps to foster a mindfulness-based environment designed for clients to develop new cognitive and behavioral patterns with their therapist. Session time is also used to assist clients in creating therapeutic and personal goals to assist oneself to be successful in multiple professional and personal settings throughout each day and week.
It is my hope to facilitate a safe-space setting in which all individuals and their families feel welcomed and appreciated, knowing their mental health concerns will be listened to and understood. Each session will address present-moment mental health concerns in addition to providing clients with necessary resources to improve their overall wellness and health in multiple life dimensions (1. Mental Health, 2. Physical Health, 3. Spiritual Health, 4. Artistic/Creative Expression, 5. Career/Academic Progress, 6. Financial Stability, 7. Social and Family Interaction Health, 8. Love for oneself and others, and 9. Forgiveness for oneself and others). The process of mindfully bringing attention and care to a person’s multiple wellness dimensions of health ideally will optimize overall mental health and a person’s quality of life as each counseling session reviews and creates new treatment goals to be completed by the client during time periods between sessions. In doing so, clients ideally facilitate therapeutic momentum and develop a personal vision of success as each goal is completed with time, patience, and a mindful outlook.
